We’re very lucky to have had lots of fantastic volunteers come through our door over the years – from students looking to gain some work experience, through to retired finance directors keen to share their wisdom. We plan all our volunteer placements to ensure that not only do we receive valuable support, but also that our volunteers have the best possible experience.

There’s a variety of ways you can get involved, both in the UK and – occasionally – in Malawi:

  • internships in communications, trust fundraising, events fundraising, and programmes;
  • joining our Summer Festival Tour team;
  • lending a hand at exciting events, such as art auctions or concerts;
  • cheering on our fundraisers as they take on challenges for us;
  • through the Accountancy for International Development scheme.

Voluntary Programmes and Fundraising Support

We offer UK and Malawi based voluntary internships or expert support roles to assist the UK and Malawi team goals of bringing communities together to create sustainable change. See current opportunities below.

An exciting opportunity to support the Temwa Malawi team, get first-hand experience in programme delivery and assist both the UK and Malawi teams to share the impact. You will be passionate and dedicated to communications and international development, with a particular interest in Malawi or Sub-Saharan Africa. You will be confident working in new or challenging environments, including travel to very remote areas with limited internet and infrastructure for our programmes work. The scope of this role makes it ideal for either a professional looking to apply your specific expertise to build capacity in Malawi, or for a recent graduate seeking to further your programmes and communications skills in the development sector.

You will play a key role in bringing about sustainable change in our partner communities, while experience daily life in Malawi. Temwa will provide you with self-catering accommodation, travel insurance and any work related travel (including food) costs. This role is designed to be self-funded to cover the costs of flights and day-to-day living (which is relatively low in Malawi). The team will help you with your fundraising to cover your living and travel costs.

Community Volunteers

Community Fundraiser: Plough Door Collectors

Start Conversations | Raise Money | Transform Lives

The Plough Inn in Easton is a valued supporter of Temwa and a community focused, much loved local. Every Friday night donations are collected on the door for Temwa. We have a team of Plough Door collectors who are paid to run the door from 9pm – 1am, choosing shifts on the Friday nights. This is a great dose of pocket money for freelancers and students, a brilliant way to meet the locals, enjoy an evening soaking up the Plough’s lively atmosphere – and of course help in raising invaluable funds for Temwa.

We can only take volunteers where there is a specific organisational need so we can’t promise anything, but we’d love to get you on board if we can.
