St Mary Redcliffe Lent Appeal 2017
Each year, St Mary Redcliffe Church in Bristol chooses a charity to support for its Lent Appeal – we’re delighted that for 2017, they’ve chosen to support us and our life-changing work in rural Malawi. The Lent Appeal is an opportunity not just to raise funds, but also to forge a new, and hopefully lasting, partnership with the church, whilst also engaging many more people in Bristol in our mission.
Whilst Lent is perhaps traditionally a time of sombre reflection, we’re working together to bring you Stories of Hope – a more uplifting look at our work in Malawi and what we’ve achieved over the past 14 years as an organisation. Although we still face many challenges ahead, we hope you’ll join us as we celebrate these stories of hope over Lent.
What’s on
Exploring St Mary Redcliffe
Saturday 25th March, 11am, meet inside the church
Join in this guided walk and discover more about St Mary Redcliffe, followed by refreshments in the pop-up cafe. The tour will last around an hour.
Pop-up exhibition
Adam Dickens, of Taking Pictures, Changing Lives, works with us to share our stories visually, beautifully capturing the Malawian landscapes and bringing to life the people we work with and the projects we run with them. He’s curated a temporary exhibition of some of his favourite images of hope – catch it in the north transept throughout Lent.
Saturday cafe and crafts
Look out for St Mary Redcliffe’s pop-up cafe and craft stall, at the rear of the church every Saturday throughout Lent.

Celebratory concert
Saturday 4th March, 6pm
We launched Stories of Hope with a celebratory candlelit concert on Saturday 4th March, in the stunning surrounds of the church. Performances from local choirs, singers and bands provided the perfect backdrop to stories of hope from some of the people we work with in Malawi. Find out more.
Make for Malawi
Saturday 11th March, 10.30am-3pm (drop-in), St Mary Redcliffe Undercroft
A relaxed crafting event for all ages and abilities! Using beautiful Malawian fabric from the communities we support, join us and make something for yourself to take away, or to sell at St Mary Redcliffe’s weekly craft stall.
Reflections for every day in Lent
St Mary Redcliffe have put together a collection of daily thoughts, prayers and reflections for each day of Lent – including stories of hope from our projects, and words from some of our team in Malawi. You can read Stories of Hope: Reflections for every day in Lent online (via issuu), or pick up a printed version from the church.
